Sheldon B. Lubar | Founder and Chairman


Sheldon Lubar is the founder and Chairman of Lubar & Co. He is a director of several public companies, including Crosstex Energy, Approach Resources, and Hallador as well as many private companies. Previously, he served as a director of MassMutual Life Insurance Co., U.S. Bancorp, MGIC Investment Corp., Ameritech Corporation, Weatherford International, Grant Prideco, and other public companies.

During his career, Mr. Lubar has held governmental appointments under three U.S. Presidents. President Jimmy Carter named him Commissioner of the White House Conference on Small Business in 1979-80. President Richard M. Nixon appointed him Assistant Secretary, Housing Production and Mortgage Credit, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration, and Director of the Federal National Mortgage Association, in 1973-74. He completed this service under President Gerald Ford.

Mr. Lubar served on the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System for seven years and as its President from 1997-1998. In 1991, Mr. Lubar served as Co-Chairman of the Governor's Conference on Small Business. He was Trustee and Acting Chairman of the State of Wisconsin Investment Board from 1975 to 1979. Mr. Lubar holds degrees in Business Administration and Law from the University of Wisconsin Madison and an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.

David J. Lubar | President

David Lubar joined Lubar & Co. in 1983 and has been its President since 1994. Previously, he spent five years in commercial banking with Wells Fargo Bank (f/k/a Norwest Bank). He has served as lead investor and a director to over 20 companies in a wide range of industries and various stages of development. He currently serves as director of Lake Express, Shared Imaging, Optique Capital, Rockland Industrial Products, Wrightwood Capital, Milwaukee Brewers, Zero Zone and several other private companies.  In addition, he is a director of Marshall & Ilsley Corporation (NYSE: MI), Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., and Cogdell Spencer, Inc. (NYSE: CSA).

He also serves on the Board of several non-profit organizations, including Greater Milwaukee Foundation, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Foundation, Milwaukee Jewish Federation, University School of Milwaukee, Froedtert & Community Health System, and United Way of Milwaukee.

Mr. Lubar received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowdoin College in 1977 and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Minnesota in 1982.

David Bauer | Chief Financial Officer

Dave Bauer joined Lubar & Co. in 2005 as Chief Financial Officer. His work experience includes 5 years with Facilitator Capital Fund, a Wisconsin-based Small Business Investment Company, and 10 years with the accounting firm of Arthur Andersen where he focused on audit services and corporate acquisitions and divestitures.  He currently serves on the board or is an officer of Zero Zone, Inc., Lake Express, LLC, and Shared Imaging.

Mr. Bauer received a Master of Business Administration degree from Marquette University in 2005 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Marquette University in 1991. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Wisconsin Institute of CPA's and the American Institute of CPA's.  In addition, Mr. Bauer is actively involved with several local charitable organizations including the Milwaukee Art Museum.

David Kuehl | General Counsel

David Kuehl joined Lubar & Co. in 2005 as General Counsel. He was previously a shareholder in the Business Practice Group of Reinhart Boerner Van Dueren SC where he counseled clients on a wide variety of business transactions and arrangements. He also served as General Counsel for a diversified Milwaukee area holding company and as President of one of its operating subsidiaries for three years.

Mr. Kuehl received his Bachelor degree from Denison University in 1977 and his Law degree from the University of Michigan in 1980. He is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin.  In addition, he is active in local charitable organizations including Our Next Generation and Junior Achievement of Wisconsin.

Jean Ellen Trubshaw | Director of Tax and Treasurer

Jean Ellen Trubshaw joined Lubar & Co. in 2008 as the Director of Tax and Treasurer.  Previously, Ms. Trubshaw was a manager at Goossen & Schultz where she focused on tax strategy and compliance for partnerships and individuals.  She also worked at Pricewaterhouse Coopers where she provided audit, review and consulting services to small businesses.  Ms. Trubshaw received her Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Illinois in 1980.  She is a Certified Public Accountant, a member of the Georgia and Indiana Institute of CPA’s, and is actively involved in her church, where she serves on the governing board.

Jamie Ward | Controller

Jamie Ward joined Lubar & Co in 2006 as Controller. Previously, Ms. Ward was a manager at the accounting firm of Virchow Krause & Co., an internal auditor for M&I Corporation, and a financial analyst with a regional truck dealership. In addition, Ms. Ward has also served for many years as treasurer on the board of directors for a local non-profit arts organization. Ms. Ward is a CPA and received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse in 1989.

William T. Donovan | Operating Partner

Bill Donovan joined Lubar & Co. in 1980 and served as a Principal until 1998, when he became President and Chief Financial Officer of Christiana Companies, Inc., a public company majority owned by Lubar until its merger with Weatherford International in 1999.  He then served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Total Logistics, Inc. (TLCX), a public company majority owned by Lubar until its sale to SUPERVALU, Inc. in 2005.

Mr. Donovan currently serves as Chairman of Rockland Industrial Products and as a director of Grey Wolf, Inc. and Tablogix/I-Force. He was previously an officer with Manufacturers Hanover Trust from 1976 to 1980. He received a Bachelor of Science in 1974 and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1976.

Gary R. Sarner | Operating Partner

Gary Sarner served as the Chairman and CEO of Total Logistic Control from 1985 to 2005 when it and its public parent, Total Logistics, Inc, were purchased by SUPERVALU.  Previously, he served as Vice President and Treasurer of Intrepid (Trek Bicycle) from 1982-1985 and as Senior Vice President of Commercial Banking at Bank One from 1971-1982.

Mr. Sarner is currently a director of several private companies including Zero Zone, Inc., Foundations Bank, and Hanson Logistics. He received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Wisconsin- Lacrosse in 1969 and a Master of Business Administration from Marquette University in 1971.
